    Hi,
I am wondering if you know where I can get hold of a copy of the Musical “Friends Forever” that you co-wrote with Nan Gurley, Billy Sprague.

I remember doing a play in my teens with some youth back then.

    Thanks

I’m glad you enjoyed “Friends…forever” when you were in your teens! I’ll email you more specifics about finding a copy, but I’d love to hear more about where you performed it and how it affected you and your friends.

Well, this was done sometime back in 1992 in my country Malaysia in a Methodist church Youth group and somehow, one of those youth just found me on Facebook and my only link to them was that “Friends Forever” play. And suddenly I was transported back to that time and I was trying to remember the songs. I managed to find a couple on Youtube. “Friends are friends forever” performed by Michael Smith and “Can you reach my friend” sung by Debbie Boone. Incidentally, I found that some groups are still doing the play in 2008. Thanks for writing back

I used to listen to “Friends Forever” every morning before school as a kid. In fact, I listened to that cassette over and over till I literally wore it out. My dad used to be in a band and after a service, I went “backstage” and I saw a copy of this CD and that was the last I’ve ever seen of it. I still regret not stealing it then praying for forgiveness later. Haha…Point is…I NEED to have it again. It was such a wonderful and inspirational part of my youth and I would love to own it again.

    Hi,

I have been interested to find this as well. I have been searching for a very long time.
I used to listen to the cassette very often.
It would be something suitable for a church youth group to perform.

Can you please share with my where I could find/buy
    1) CD
    2) DVD
    3) Script
    4) Score

    Thank you very much.

Hi Fred, I would gladly burn you a copy, if I could find mine, but I can’t right now. I will contact you about sending you a copy, as soon as it turns up.

Hi Thomas, I agree that it is still suitable for church youth groups or choirs to perform, and I would love to help you make that happen. Here’s what I know. The choirbooks (score and script) are out of print. I probably have a file copy somewhere in my attic, but offhand, I don’t know exactly where. I also have a copy of the cast CD, but as I just told Fred below, I can’t find it right now. There is not DVD that I know of. DVD’s didn’t exist when this musical was produced. A cast demonstration video was made and somewhere there are VHS copies of it, but I don’t have one. If you find one, I would love to get a copy of it. I recently acquired a copy of the performance track CD, and I will gladly make a copy available to you, should you decide to produce the musical. Let me know if you think that will be helpful. You can post it here, or, better yet, send it to my email address through this site. – Jim

I just noticed your email for some reason. I don’t know how I missed it before. My apologies for the delayed response. I can’t find my copy right now, but when I do, I’ll let you know. I’m glad to share it with you.

    Hi Jim,
In 1991 or maybe 1992, you came on a Mexico mission trip with Johnson Ferry Baptist Church (Marietta, GA). Your music was so inspiring to me and I still own the cassette tape Long Lonely Night. 20 years later, I found myself humming some of your music today and decided to Google you. So glad that you are still in the music business. I wanted to thank you for joining us on that trip and sharing your music with all of us high schoolers.
    God Bless,
    Amanda C.

    Hi Amanda,
Thanks for the kind words. I really enjoyed those mission trips. In fact, I have one scheduled for later this fall. And I really enjoyed working with JFBC multiple times. You all were a great group! If you’re interested in seeing some slides and video from those Mission Discovery mission trips, go find them on Facebook. They just posted a hilarious video for their 20th anniversary. And if you want to catch up on what I’ve been doing recently, take a look at http://www.civilgroups.org. We have videos there too, as a matter of fact.
    Blessings!

Hello, Mr.Jim! My name is Christy Perkins and I was a part of the Jamaica mission team this past July. I’m from Newnan, Georgia and I’m the lead singer in my Youth Praise Band. I showed interest in your “Like Gumby” song & I was wondering if you could send me the chords to it? We would love to use it for our Sunday night worship! It’s been on my ipod since July and it always puts me in the best moods :) Thanks!

Hi Christy, I’m glad to send you a copy of the chords. It will come as an attached Word file in an email. By the way, if your group ever needs me to lead worship for a camp, retreat or special event, I would sure love to do it. Feel free to tell the folks in charge that I would really like to work with your group again. Have a great week!

    Hi Jim.

Thank you for your personal contribution to the Jamaica trip last week. My heart is moved at the way you personalize the Word and then share it with the Body in ways that are easily understood and adapted to one’s own life. I’ve been listening to the CD’s that I purchased on the trip and wish I’d gotten all of them. I went to youtube hoping that I’d hear your pieces there, to no avail. Have you considered putting them on that site?

I’ll continue to pray for your ‘situations’ in life. It was good to learn in Jamaica that there are not ‘problems’ in life – only ‘situations’ which are handled BEFORE they become ‘problems’. You and Melony are in my thoughts and prayers.

Love to both of you in the Living one,
    Carol

Hi Jan, I’m glad you are interested in finding a copy of Friends…forever. I’ve inquired with a friend who represents Word’s digital copyright interests about making it available to you somehow. Hopefully he will contact me very soon. When he does, I’ll contact you.

    Hi there,
I love seeing all the interest in “Friends…forever” as it was a huge, wonderful part of my childhood. I now have 3 kids of my own and would love to share it with them. I saw you previously posted a friend of yours might know how to get a hold of a copy. If you could point me in the right direction that’d be great! I enjoyed reading about you and it was touching to see that you still inspire youth today. I don’t know why that was a surprise (maybe because music can be so money driven), but I was glad to read it! Thanks for keepin’ on.

    Terra
