Diamonds In The Dust
When the sand
Has slipped through my hourglass,
And I find myself looking back
Over all that I’ve done,
Will it stand
In the wind that blows future to past.
And is anything here gonna last
When my time is done?
CHORUS:
Will there be diamonds in the dust
And gold beneath the rust
Or treasures in my castles after they fall?
And when the best of life is gone
Is there something left that lives on
Like diamonds in the dust?
In the end
When the breakers crash over me
And my castles wash out to sea
And dissolve in the foam,
Will I stand
And sift life through hopeful hands
Cause I know I left pearls in the sand
When the rest is all gone?
CHORUS
TAG:
And when the smoke and ash are gone
Is there something left that lives on
Like diamonds in the dust?

Jim,
You were a guest at a retreat that I attended as a youth. This song, though many many others have left me, remains one of my very favorites of all times. It is penned so beautifully and full of insight. As I have matured, this song continues to require reflection and depth. I am so grateful to have found the lyrics again. Thank you for this amazing contribution to my life.

Thanks Juanita. I’m so glad I was able to contribute to your life. It’s very encouraging and satisfying to hear that the songs continue to do their work, long after I sang them. That’s one of the blessings of music, I guess.
