I Can’t Let You See Me Cry

I Can’t Let You See Me Cry

I’ve played this masquerade
To hide myself inside
Cause I can’t let you see me cry.
This smile is painted on.
It’s all been a lie.
Cause I can’t let you see me cry.

So I smile and say I’m alright
Cause I have faith in God.
But my soul is in Gethsemane,
Fighting tears and sweating blood.
And look at me. My eyes are dry
Cause I can’t let you see me cry.

The tears come slower now.
I’m learning to pretent.
Cause I can’t let you see me cry.
But once my heart is frozen
Hard against the pain
Won’t all my other feelings die?

When I smile and say I’m alright
Cause I have faith in god,
But my soul is in Gethsemane,
Fighting tears and sweating blood.
Won’t anyone see through my lie?
And even though my eyes are dry,
Can’t anybody see me cry?

I met you in early 1990 somthing at Atlanta Fest when I was a youth pastor, you took time to listen to one of the songs I wrote and offered some constructive critcism. Many of your songs ministered to my wife and I for years after that, but somewhere along the line the tapes got lost or broke. Glad I found you on the web, will be picking up one of my old favorite Diamonds in the Dust. I still play and sing I can’t let you see me cry – it’s timeless! Thanks brother! Rick
