I Can't Reach You

I Can’t Reach You

I kneel and pray to silence.
I sing to no reply.
I crave the living water,
But deep down, I’m dry.
God, I wanna see you,
Though the light would leave me blind.
It’s better than this darkness in my mind.
They tell me you’re my father.
Then why don’t you hold me close?
I’m lonely for some contact
From a God I’m supposed to know.
And I long to tell somebody.
But who would understand?
They just give me easy answers
That don’t mean a thing.

CHORUS:
When I can’t reach you. Can you reach me?
And I can’t see you. Can you see me?
And I can’t hear you talking to me,
Feel you moving.
I can’t reach you. Can you reach me?
I’m angry at this distance.
But I don’t even know what that means.
How can I say, “I miss you,”
To a God that I’ve never seen.
But I’m aching in your absence.
And I’m hoping still someday
That this waiting will be over.
And I won’t have to say (That…)
