CiViL Groups

In 2004, Weber took a five-year hiatus from music in order to help launch a character education program for inner-city public high schools. CiViL Groups, the award-winning brain-child of Jim and Melony Weber, helps at-risk students talk about the issues that motivate their choices, all in a safe, small group setting. In addition to talking about real life character issues, students are invited to act out good character by participating in service projects. The students of CiViL Groups have taken five trips to the Gulf Coast to help rebuild after Hurricane Katrina, and in 2007 they received the Mary Catherine Strobel Award as Volunteer Group of the Year. Starting with about a dozen students, CiViL Groups now serves over one hundred fifty students each year.
